World’s Greatest Conman Issues Stern Warning to Social Media Users: Technology Breeds Crime, Especially against Children

By on 03-27-2013

The man known as the world’s greatest conman is now warning others about the risks of identity theft in a technologically advanced society. According to The Guardian, Frank Abagnale, famously portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the film Catch Me if You Can, says that young Facebook users in particular are susceptible to having their identities stolen, thanks to the accessibility of their personal information.

Abagnale says that thieves need little more than a child’s date and place of birth to successfully steal a kid’s identity. Facebook asks their members to list both on their Timelines for all to see. The former conman turned FBI consultant also warned against posting mug-shot style pictures that clearly show one’s face and recommends group photos instead. Will you be heeding his warnings?
