For many teens around the world, livestreaming is a great way for them to keep up with trends, hobbies, and interests – engaging with their favorite creators and streamers in real time, with no filter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For many parents and guardians, that\u2019s exactly where the problem lies. No safeguards, no controls, and no knowledge of what their children might come up against as they tune in. And now, a new livestream contender has joined the pack, going live to the world in early 2023. The platform\u2019s name is <\/span>Kick<\/b>, and it\u2019s already been joined by a whole host of streamers, thanks to its boasting of \u201ccreator-friendly\u201d policies. But <\/span>is Kick safe for children and teens<\/b>, and should younger viewers be watching at all?<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Kick is one of the latest contenders to jump into the streaming wars, positioning itself as a platform that favors creators. On its website, <\/span>Kick describes itself as the \u201cthe fastest-growing\u201d livestreaming service<\/b>, in addition to being the \u201cmost rewarding\u201d. Kick allows viewers to tune in and watch for free, browsing all manner of livestreams, including gaming, music, and sports broadcasts, from creators all around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One of Kick\u2019s backers, Ed Craven, <\/span>stated in an interview<\/span><\/a> that <\/span>Kick has only two rules: \u201cno pornography\u201d, and \u201cno hate speech<\/b>\u201d. Kick creators often host gambling streams – something <\/span>Twitch started cracking down on in 2022<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Because of its more lax reputation regarding what creators can stream, <\/span>Kick has come to be known as more of an \u201canything goes\u201d platform<\/b>, attracting viewers and streamers alike from <\/span>popular platforms such as Twitch<\/span><\/a>, which enforces stricter guidelines overall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Kick has experienced a recent surge in users thanks to <\/span>popular streamers such as <\/b>xQc<\/b><\/a> and Adin Ross hosting on the platform<\/b>. These streamers have both experienced bans on Twitch – in the case of Adin Ross, multiple times due to the use of \u201chateful slurs\u201d – and happily jumped ship over to Kick, along with their own devout following.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While Kick is certainly drawing in new viewers thanks to the number of creators signing up, <\/span>time will tell whether it has the same staying power as other popular streaming platforms<\/b>, especially Twitch, which still reigns supreme with the younger crowd. You can simply enter a livestream and view, although you won\u2019t be able to leave comments and enter the chat. This means <\/span>anyone, regardless of their age, can access Kick and tune in to the streams hosted on the platform<\/b>, where popular categories include gaming and live music. However, there are also many livestreams with a more adult theme, such as a whole category dedicated to gambling, and the interestingly titled \u201cpools, hot tubs and bikinis\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Many of the livestreamers on Kick mark their content as being only suitable for 18+, but <\/span>there\u2019s no age verification system<\/b> – just a popup advising mature content. <\/span>All the viewer has to do is click a button stating they\u2019re over 18<\/b>, and they\u2019ll be allowed in to watch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n And it\u2019s not just mature content viewers may come up against on Kick. Creators linked to extremist ideas, many of whom <\/span>have been banned<\/span><\/a> from other streaming platforms, have found a home there. And just like any livestream platform, <\/span>anything can happen during a broadcast<\/b> – viewers could easily be exposed to hate speech, violence, or upsetting content as they browse channels.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Despite Kick\u2019s apparent interest in jacuzzis, <\/span>the platform has limits on what creators are allowed to wear and show<\/b> while they host.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Kick\u2019s <\/span>community guidelines<\/span><\/a> prohibit streamers from showing \u201csexually suggestive clothing\u201d, but they are allowed to broadcast while wearing swimwear.
