This week the Qustodio team is at CES, one of the largest consumer electronics shows in the world. CES takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is a tradeshow where many companies announce their ground-breaking products for the year. New Smart TV’s, tablets, apps and other gadgets are often unveiled. This year, it’s Qustodio who’s got some big news.
We announced today that we’ve partnered with Qualcomm Atheros, the world leader in 3G, 4G and next-generation wireless technologies, on their new Qualcomm Internet Processor (IPQ), a smart gateway product. What’s a gateway? It’s the router or box that connects your home to the internet. Qualcomm calls their new IPQ a smart gateway because it is designed to improve consumers' connected experiences in the home.
Qualcomm’s IPQ does all sorts of cool things: it speeds up the internet experience by caching and streaming media content. It hooks into cloud storage applications so that you’re always backed up. Plus, it features Qustodio’s parental control app right out of the box. If this is the first time you’ve read about Qustodio: Qustodio is a best-in-class app for connected devices that helps you understand, manage and protect children's Internet activity.
How will it work? In the coming months, Qualcomm will be working to get IPQ integrated into Internet carriers’ and router manufacturers’ offerings so that when you connect to the Internet, you can do it from a box that has IPQ. When your internet company connects you to the net on a box with IPQ, or you buy a router with IPQ in it, you’ll be able to monitor all connected devices in the household with Qustodio without any extra setup on individual devices.
Here’s what Qustodio’s chief executive officer, Eduardo Cruz, said about the deal: "Qustodio on Qualcomm Atheros' IPQ-enabled platform reinvents parental control. Powerful, smart gateways create a new way to protect, monitor and manage devices on the home network. Together with Qualcomm Atheros, we provide seamless out-of-the-box protection for parents who want to keep their kids safer online."
