Apple to Settle With Parents over In-App Purchases

Has your little one ever unlocked a new level or bought more accessories for her virtual pet with real money while playing a game on your iPhone? If so, you may be able eligible for compensation. In response to a lawsuit filed in 2011, Apple has decided to settle with parents who claimed that in-app purchases were too easy for children to make.

Apple Insider reports that the majority of plaintiffs in the suit will receive anywhere from $5 in iTunes gift cards to $30 in cash. Parents whose wallets were hit the hardest, though, will receive a full refund for the hundreds of dollars their kids charged to their credit cards. Despite its willingness to settle, Apple claims that the purchases could have been prevented by parental controls.
