According to the New York times, last week a UK based regulatory authority, exposed Playboy for “failing to protect children from potentially harmful pornographic material” and slapped them with a £100,000 fine, equivalent to $160,000 USD.
According to Ofcom’s investigation, Playboy wasn’t doing enough to keep underage visitors out of Playboy TV and Demand Adult. In fact, children were able to access both free and paid content without a credit card or other age verification.
Although Playboy is clearly to blame here, this should serve as a reminder that we can’t expect websites to take the high road when it comes to protecting our kids. It’s our job to look out for those who matter most to us.
