Should Facebook Welcome Sex Offenders?

It’s okay for sex offenders to use Facebook and other social media sites, at least according to a federal appeals court. The 7th U.S. Circuit of Appeals in Chicago overturned an Indiana law that banned registered sex offenders from social networking sites.

The decision, reported by USA Today, was made in response to a law suit from the American Civil Liberties Union, which claimed that the law infringed on sex offenders’ freedom of speech.

A local source reassures parents that other precautionary measures exist in Indiana, however. Sex offenders still have to register all email addresses and user names associated with their social media profiles under penalty of law.

Is that enough to keep kids safe, or should the court reconsider their ruling?
